This FAQ is to help you with installing the later versions of LONE-TAR on your Linux/UNIX operating systems. LONE-TAR and RESCUE-RANGER Installation Instructions
----------------------------------------------------

LONE-TAR will be installed in the directory called ‘/usr/lone-tar’.
RESCUE-RANGER will be installed in the directory called ‘/usr/rr’.
If these directories do not exist, they will be created for you automatically.
Please read and follow all menu prompts.

1. Login as user ‘root’
Login: root

NOTE:
- The asterisk (*) in the filenames below *must* be replaced
with the LONE-TAR Version-Number and Operating-System
you want to install.

Example: If you wanted LONE-TAR v4.3.1.6 for SCO OSR5:
Lt4*-OSR5.sh.Z <== Below example
lt4316-OSR5.sh.Z <== Actual file name on web or CD

2. INSTALLATION FROM CD (after burning file to CD from Windows download),
Insert the CD in the drive on the Linux/UNIX system:

***NOTICE FOR SCO 5 CD INSTALLATIONS***
The filename on the CD may be different than the file you actually downloaded. If that is the case, you will change the name back to the original when you COPY the file to the ‘./tmp’ directory. To do so, when running the copy command below, simply use the first two characters of the filename exactly as it appears on the CD followed by an *(asterisk). In the example below, lt* is used, but if the file on your CD is LT*, then you would need to be sure to use uppercase characters. Otherwise, the file will not be found.

When you mount the CD, SCO 5 renames the file like example below:
Downloaded filename: lt4316-OSR5.sh.Z
Filename on mounted CD drive: LT4_0001.Z
Do not PANIC, its normal. Just continue with instructions below

SCO 5
---------------
*Replace '/dev/cd0' with proper device name on your system.
# mount  /dev/cd0  /mnt
# cd  /mnt
# cp  LT4*.Z  /tmp/LT4*.Z
# cd  /tmp
# uncompress  LT4*
*If 'uncompress' does not work, skip and try 'sh' command
# sh  LT4*


SCO 6
---------------
*Replace '/dev/cd0' with proper device name on your system.
# mount  /dev/cd0  /mnt
# cd  /mnt
# cp   lt4*-OSR6.sh.gz   /tmp/lt4*-OSR6.sh.gz
# cd   /tmp
# gzip  -d   lt4*-OSR6.sh.gz
*If 'gzip -d' does not work, skip and try 'sh' command
# sh  lt4*-OSR6.sh


LINUX
---------
*Replace '/dev/cdrom' with proper device name on your system.
# mount  /dev/cdrom  /mnt
# cd  /mnt
# cp  lt4*-LNX.sh.gz   /tmp/lt4*-LNX.sh.gz
# cd  /tmp
# gzip  -d   lt4*-LNX.sh.gz
*If 'gzip -d does not work, skip and try 'sh' command
# sh  lt4*-LNX.sh


FreeBSD
---------
*Replace '/dev/acd0' with proper device name on your system.
# mount  /dev/acd0
# cd  /cdrom
# cp  lt4*-FBSD.sh.gz   /tmp/lt4*-FBSD.sh.gz
# cd  /tmp
# gzip  -d   lt4*-FBSD.sh.gz
*If 'gzip -d' does not work, skip and try 'sh' command
# sh  lt4*-FBSD.sh


3. INSTALLATION FROM WEBSITE

Installation from website download:
Go to www.cactus.com and follow these links.
- Click on version you want under Demo Downloads

SCO 5
---------------
FTP file to the ‘/tmp’ directory on the server
# cd  /tmp
# uncompress  lt4*-OSR5.sh.Z
*If 'uncompress' does not work, skip and try 'sh' command
# sh  lt4*-OSR5.sh


SCO 6
---------------
FTP file to the ‘/tmp’ directory on the server
# cd  /tmp
# gzip -d  lt4*-OSR6.sh.gz
*If 'gzip -d' does not work, skip and try 'sh' command
# sh  lt4*-OSR6.sh


LINUX
---------
FTP file to the ‘/tmp’ directory on the server
# cd  /tmp
# gzip  -d   lt4*-LNX.sh.gz
*If 'gzip -d' does not work, skip and try 'sh' command
# sh  lt4*-LNX.sh


FreeBSD
---------
FTP file to the ‘/tmp’ directory on the server
# cd  /tmp
# gzip  -d   lt4*-FBSD.sh.gz
*If 'gzip -d' does not work, skip and try 'sh' command
# sh  lt4*-FBSD.sh

4.This will now begin the LONE-TAR and RESCUE-RANGER installation process. Ensure that media is inserted into all backup devices in order to perform proper Auto Detection. You may always add/modify additional devices later within the ‘Device Configuration Menu’, option #9 from the LONE-TAR Main Menu.

5.One the installation is complete, invoke the menu as follows:
# ltmenu

6.Register your LONE-TAR at:
